My Oldest Machine-1884 Singer 12K (well...one of the oldest)
This is my Singer 12K hand crank. She was made June 9, 1884 in Clydebank, Scotland. After a lot of cleaning and fresh oil, I got her sewing nicely. She's pretty rough looking, but I love her none the less.
I have just finished oiling and cleaning a Wertheim 'Triumph' hand crank I bought thirty years ago, stored in a cupboard and never used. It is almost identical to the Singer12K and I believe was made by either by Isaac Singer for Wertheim or was the prototype Joseph Wertheim used for the 12K ( don't remember which way it goes) It has the same fiddle base and is in the same condition as your 12K I used an old 12K manual to thread it. What fun. It sews beautifully and I have managed to find needles and bobbins for it. Will be starting my first project tomorrow. All the best with yours.
